Survey Nails – Spit ou Clou Arpentage

When a Surveyor wants to implant stable points easily identifiable and usable he plants nails at the right position.. But it is difficult to retreive them some days later. Nails are very small on the road. We need to draw a simple map to describe how to retreive it in a described environment.

Professional Surveyors use to draw sketch map by hand, rapidly to memorize on site right cotations on a real geographical accurate position on situation.

Here are some examples …

Four sketch plans for retreiving surveyor’s nails

Here is an example of four Sketch Surveyor’s maps drawing. North direction is written on each sketch map. Then some elements on geographical position are written. Town, adresses, remarquable object as houses, parkings, lights, storm sewers … etc. Then we write measurements from described and known objects to the positionned Nail. We can use some alignments and perpendicular lines to identify our nail.
